My family and I spent the Christmas week in Borrowdale and after hearing lots of good things about the Kirkstile Inn we decided to head over the Honister Pass and give it a go for lunch on 30th December 2011. We arrived just after 2pm and when we tried to order at the bar we were told that we had... More

Have eaten & drank in the Kirkstile several times as my wife is from Cumbria. As a wee girl, her family used to go there for Sunday lunch & the New Year's Day hunt. This is was the 1st time we actually stayed there for a couple of nights. In short, it's a fantastic place. Good food (huge portions!), GREAT... More

This was my favourite place I stayed at on a recent visit to the UK, situated near to Cockermouth in the Lake District, below the imposing Melbreak and between Loweswater & Crummock Water. It's a 17th century hostelry with low ceilings and stone walls, a tap for the Cumbrian Legendary Ales, and home to some fantastic tasty food. They have... More

On the one hand, you can sit here and enjoy delights such as black pudding in batter, camembert and bacon tart, lovely Ploughman’s with local cheese and home-made bread, unctuous steak pie in mouth-watering gravy – all of which graced our table recently , all of it washed down with a splendid selection of well-kept beers – whilst enjoying glorious,... I came across the Kirkstile Inn almost by accident. I was on a walking holiday, based near Cockermouth, and had decided to spend the day near Loweswater. Nearing the end of my walk I called in for a drink. They had a really good selection of Real Ales, some of which are brewed on the premises. I sat out in... More

We had an amazing week here and found it to be an ideal base to explore the Lakes District. The pub's hosts were welcoming and the place has a cosy friendly feel to it. Lots of character in the building and the bar whilst small was great and exactly how you would imagine a village pub to be. There is... More

Loweswater is a wonderful part of the world, fantastic scenery and indeed where I proposed to my now wife. There is a great loop walk round the reservoir and there is no better place to end up than The Kirkstile Inn. Fantastic ales (Loweswater Gold, you can buy your own Keg!) and very welcoming people. Fully recommend and we go... More

We have stayed here many times over the past 12 years and I would highly recommend it to anyone who would love to relax with good beer and food. Especially After a long walk. The hotel is very clean and the rooms are comfortable, there is also a very reasonable Winter deal and they have a self catering cottage available More

The welcome was warm, the room extremely comfortable, we had room 9 complete with en-suite, separate lounge and "t.v" to flop in front of after huge, well cooked and delicious evening meal. The breakfasts too being very comprehensive setting one up for the days activities. There is actually nothing bad I can say about this hotel. The roads leading to... More

Went for Sunday lunch today, having enjoyed the food in the evenings here before. Very disappointing. The meat was tough and cold, yorkshire puddings were rubbery and gravy was instant packet gravy that had not been cooked long enough and was floury, lukewarm and overpowered all the food with an artificial taste. Carrots tasted of cheap margarine, and swede (or... More
