“Pleasant but uninspiring hotel”

Having spent 8 hours on the road I was firmly told that one couldn't check in before 6.00pm which was annoying. The room itself was very pleasant though with a view over the garden. Lovely hotel with excellent food in a small town (1800 people) in a remote Normandy area where there are beautiful walks. We loved staying there--not alot to do in town but plenty of resources like boulangeries, banks, place to buy English newspapers, helpful tourist information office etc. We are walkers so this was great for us--if you have a car,... We chose this as a half way stop ver en route to the Dordogne, the reception on a rrival from the owner was poor, however once we had assured her that our "breakfast request" would be lodged by 8 that night she cheered up a bit and showed us the family room which we had booked.
