Situated in Mandawa in rural India this is a restored haveli amongst a group of mainly deteriorating havelis on what was once an important town on the Silk Route. Room was basic and bed and pillow a bit hard but otherwise clean and comfortable. Restaurant service was slow and food (the thali) was bland and boringand not hot enough even... More

I loved Mandawa and this was the perfect place to stay, a splendidly lavish old house artfully but simply restored, with an atmospheric inner courtyard where it was possible to savour the languid tranquility of nineteenth century rural India. There was no fuss but everyone is very obliging. I can't imagine why people who carp about the 'service' and so... More

Please note this review and scoring must be read in context, namely that of a small reasonably priced haveli/hotel in a small town in Rajasthan. The high ratings of course do not imply that it is comparable with a top end hotel in a large city. We stayed in early January 2012. The small Mandawa Haveli is well restored and... More

This haveli has plenty of charm. It is beautifully restored. The rooms and bathrooms are a little small, however this is to be expected for the type of accommodation. I would recommend the thali from the restaurant. This was the best meal that I had in my holiday in India. More

First the good points: The building is absolutely amazing and well worth a visit even if you're not staying there. Mandawa is a very pleasant small market town, with dozens of decorated Shekhawati havelis, and the Mandawa Haveli is perfectly located right on the main street. So why were we disappointed? We stayed in nine hotels on this India trip,... More

Pros: good location, character building with lovely frescos Cons: uncomfortable sloping bed, spitting hotel staff, room and common areas are dirty with many ants and flies (went somewhere else for dinner but had breakfast at the hotel and there were many ants and it just felt unhygienic to me), shower did not work, air con didn’t work properly, fan did... An old highly decorated haveli with wonderful rooms and ambience. Restaurant beautifully locate on the roof top terrace.Food was good, simple, but well presented and well cooked. Entertained by a dancer and musician. The rooms maintain the old decoration which has been very little restored. Acees up the stairs can be a little difficult. the standard room was a little... More

We came to Mandawa on an unexpected stop back in October 2011. I have to say it was one of my favourite spots as it was a great change from the big noisy crowded cities. The Mandawa Haveli was an absolute stunning property with so much character and the room we stayed in called "Nagesh" was like no other guesthouse... More

We stayed 2 nights with Rakesh at his wonderful Haveli and enjoyed every second. The place is amazing, with carved wooden doors, coloured glass, original frescos and the charming Rakesh. He took us on a guided tour of the Havelis in the town and showed gave us an insight into the real India away from the usual mass tourist routes.... More

We were privileged to stay in a place of such historical importance. The frescoes, the wooden carvings, the coloured glass and swaying fabrics made this a really atmospheric setting for our one night stay. The candlelit supper on the terrace set things off perfectly. Our room was large and airy and complimented by a spacious bathroom. There were impressive views... More
