This is the old German lodge where people escaped the muggy coastal heat. It is now run by a Greek character who with his pony tail will keep you entertained as you cluster in front of the fire in the bar. Our visit was during one of Tanzania's more spectacular storms so being able to not only have our drinks... More

My visit to Lushoto in December is when Tanzanian summer and heat is almost too much, the I arrived to Lushoto, where the climate is excellent with forests and mountains. Lawns hotel is an old colonial time structure, but such well maintained with beautiful flowers and short grass. I really enjoyed and relaxed. Thank you Tony, I got my Christmas!

As part of an overland safari we stayed here over night. Arrived late ish so not much to do or see. Rooms big and a little tired ESP the bathrooms that have an air of prison about them. The bed was big & warm. Allah woke us at 430am as did the roosters. Great bar nice staff and free wifi... More

After travelling up a very scenic mountain pass we checked in at this hotel. On our way there I have spoken to the owner a couple of times and he was very helpfull. The room were huge, with hot water but not very clean. Shower curtains were very dirty. The staff are very unpleasant. everything we asked were to much... More

The hotel is well located just outside of town, the rooms while basic are large, clean and have plentiful hot water. A pleasant bar with decent food and good breakfasts. The value is as good as you will get in Tanzania. If you want to explore the local area we recommend you use Omary from the local tourist office called... More

I stayed here for a weekend in April which is the off season and the owner was away. On the plus side the room was huge, it had a mosquito net, gardens are lovely and the shower is nice and hot (when the power is on) On the negative side: The room wasn't very clean (lots of dust everywhere including... This is a beautiful hotel, with a gorgeous garden and spaceous rooms. However, the rooms are different from eachother (although rates are the same) so make sure to first see the different available rooms! The only minus of the rooms is that they dont have mosquitonets. The owner is, although a bit strange, a very amusing guy! We had great... More

We stayed at Lawn's in January 2012 and found it to be a very good choice in Lushoto. It is close to the town (walking distance 10 min, no light on the street in the evening, rooms were clean and basic. Breakfast good. Owner very nice and has a lot of knowledge about the area. We could even pay with... More

We stayed there in Jan 2012. Charming town wonderful people. like other reviews we found the owner strange at best- but the local staff was fantastic. always willing to help and that with a smile. After traveling for a week in the Tanzanian county side - The Lawns was a relief. Hot water, clean, good quality linen comfortable. i recommend... More

Lushoto was developed by the Germans during colonial times as a mountain retreat from the heat of Dar. They built mountain seasonal homes that have a little of the feel of Bavaria. The Lawns has that "step back in time" feel to it. We had a choice of a newer room or one of the old ones. We chose the... More
