We selected this temple lodging based on recommendations given by the Japanese Guest Houses since many of the younger monks speak English and for us it was a definite plus. We opted for the Ryokan (Japanese style room) with the private bathroom. Eko-in is a traditional Buddhist Temple and one of the oldest temples on Mount Koya. We enjoyed "Shojin-Ryori"... More

I stayed here for one night in April. One night really wasn't enough time to fully enjoy the temple experience, although the early-morning fire ceremony was worthwhile. As far as overnight accommodations go, the temple is a large complex with guest rooms throughout. I left my shoes at the door and wore sandals in the hallways. My room was large,... More

The location of this shukubo (temple lodging) is really great - close to main Koyasan attraction as well as the city centre. The rooms are japanese style (tatami and futons) with shared bath rooms. The meals are served in dining areas and they are vegetarian, but really delicious. This temple has an indoor hot baths - which is great thing... More

Stayed here for a night with my cousins. This was our first stop after we arrived in Japan early April 2013. The staff that check us in was very friendly with good English skills. Wi-fi was only available at the main building. Our room were at another building and they put us on the second floor and the window of... More

Getting to Mt Koyasan was a treat - wonderfull views and a mini advnture in it's own right. The temple is one of many which line the main road through the town. The accomodation was loveley - Paper screens, a verranda with a couple of chairs and nice views over to the woods. We had the priviate room option. The... More

Reserved on booking.com, good price, including dinner and breakfast. The overall experience was exactly what we wanted, night tour of the cemetery is a must do thing - awesome! Sleeping was OK, morning chant and the fire ceremony have been awesome as well. The whole experience of getting t the mountain was extremely nice, a lot of beauty, etc. Buy... More

The temple was very easy to find, and close to the entrance of the Okunoin graveyard which others have mentioned. I found the monks to be efficient but not warm or chatty by any stretch - which is fine. My room was lovely in its simplicity , with a little glass-walled sitting area looking out on a garden (I was... More

Very nice place, nice food, nice place. A bit business-like, everywhere is the price for everything. A possibility to join the meditation, to write sutras in chinese, to join two different services in the morning was really great. It is a kind of hotel inside the temple, but you can see and participate a lot. The rooms arenice, but it... More

I stayed at Eko in Feb 2013 and was as snug as a bug in my beautiful, (and very clean) room. The heaters work really well, (and this is coming from a 'cold person'). The morning meditation was well worth getting up for (the rugs are also heated!), especially the fire ceremony. The food is amazing, subtle but complex, and... More

Originally we didn't have a night at Mt Koyasan on our itinerary but am so glad we made time for it. Ekoin Temple is located at the entrance to Okunoin Cemetery (the path of which is lit after dark, so take a night stroll there also!). Our room at the temple was comfortable and the vegan meals served in our... More
