This is a great mid-range option in Yudanaka. If you arrive around 3 and leave around 10 the owner will drive you from/ to the train station. We arrived in the morning and found it very easy to get the bus and walk up to the ryokan (you will get a good map showing all the hotels at the train... More

In early April 2012 I stayed for 2 nights with a small Aussie group at this incredibly brilliant Ryokan in Shibu Onsen recommended by local guide Zeno through his website. The Hosts Tomi and Keiko Kodama have redefined the meaning of the words "excellent service" to a much higher level. A brillant location close to wherever we wanted to go... More

I stayed there to run a marathon race. The mistress know that she study what's good before race and changed the breakfast menu. Just tell them your request and she will pleasantly do her best with full smile on her face! More

We stayed one night at this delightful ryokan and it was a really great experience - our hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful - picking us up from the station, dropping us to the monkey park and arranging transfer of our luggage so that we could see the snow monkeys and head straight for the station. The room was large... More

I stayed at the Senshinkan Matsuya for two nights in March 2012. The service was excellent and Keiko and Tomomi made the guests feel very welcome. The ryokan itself was nice and quiet with japanese style rooms providing a very "authentic" experience of the traditional japanese inn style lodging. Room was spatious, comfortable and warm and although the toilets were... More

My partner and I visited mid-week in March, there was only one other couple staying that evening, loved that. Tomomi picked us up at Yudanaka Station (call made by the very helpful tourism staff at the station). We opted for the dinner and breakfast which were great and served in traditional tatami-floored rooms, see pic attached. Our room was comfortable... More

Me and my wife were hosted in this charming ryokan for second time last november. We've traveled across Japan for six times so we know many ryokans. Most of them the best of the country. I'm completely sure this is by far one of the best ryokans we've been in Japan. Keiko and Tomomi are really charming. Rooms are warm,... More

I stayed there only for a night. Tomomi picked us up from Yudanaka station and took us straight to the snow monkeys entrance as we would have to leave early in the morning the next day. The rooms are adequate even with our 8 month old baby. Love the dinner and breakfast served. The next day day Tomomi dropped us... More

My wife and I spent 2 days in Shibu Onsen prior to 5 days skiing at Shiga Kogen. We had a lovely stay. Matsuya is located right in the centre of town thus it was very easy to access all the public onsens as well as restaurants nearby. The owner Tomomi-san and his lovely wife speak a little english, which... More

After living in Japan for almost one year, we stayed in our first ryokan. And it was really great! Tommy-san and Keiko-san are really wonderful. The homemade Ume Brandy is delicious and also the meal was very good, actually our best food in Japan! Pick-up and drop-off was perfectly organized and Tommy-san and Keiko-san helped us with our first visit... More
