The weather on our visit was not great but the warmth of the welcome at Houton Bay made up for that. The room was clean, bright, very spacious and well furnished. The staff were very friendly and they could not do enough to help. The food was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our three days. Only problem we had was... More

We stayed at the Houton Bay Lodge while we were touring Scotland and the Orkney's for a month. The Houton Lodge was lovely, clean, and the staff very attentive. Dinner was excellent - lots of local fare, excellently prepared. Our host, Lynda had just returned from unexpected dental surgery - but would not take a break until she was sure... More

We did not dine here as we did not get breakfast included and were off exploring for the rest of the day, so i cannot rate... More

Location: This establishment has good access by car to Stromness, Kirkwall and the main local sights. However, close up it presents a depressing sight nestled in yards of old cracked concrete, ferry pylons and the like. The impression is that the immediate area was perhaps once a World War I naval establishment, now demolished. Room: We found the loud decor... More

The outside of this hotel is quite bleak as you approach but the setting, rigt on the edge of Scapa Flow is fantastic. The room was clean, comfortable and spacious though a little garish in colour and rather crowded with furniture. But homely nevertheless with even tissues provided. The lady owner is the friendliest and most lovely person. She may... More

We recently stayed here when in Orkney for a family wedding. The rooms and facilities were great. Clean, comfortable and obviously well cared for. Our part consisted of 2 families who had not seen each other for some time and we really appreciated the fact that there was a sun room, bar and games room on the premises. We stayed... More

I was in Orkney for business and did not get to see any sites or restaurants. I was mostly in the Houton bay lodge in the evenings, the rooms are a teriffic standard very clean and lots of complimentary items such as tea coffee and sherry. The trouser press, ironing board and iron came in useful as well as the... More
