Just spent 2 nights there using the Nelson as a touring base.
Yes the hotel is a little tired in places bit the two single rooms we booked were fine; clean, spacious, interesting views, shower and everything worked.
Food was typical "chain pub" fair but non the worse for that, always well cooked and served.

Twin room very tired and showed signs of damp on ceiling and wall.Missing lamp shades main room light didnt work missing headboard on one bed .door wouldnt close and lock without slamming it.TV only four channels two were sport channels and reception very bad.No hangers in wardrobe .Only one member of staff on at breakfast and very slow.
