I had previously read about the hotels location so was unsurprised to have to drive by a truck stop, behind a petrol station etc. First impressions when entering the hotel were of a very stylish and immaculately kept hotel. The owner greeted us and checked us in the personally took us to our rooms. The decor and finish of the... More

Clean modern rooms on the French/belgium border . The owner took 6 of into Ypres and charged us 60 euros return , but it was cheaper than taxis . Bar shuts early though. Ok to use as a base for WW1 tours but a hotel in Ypres like the Ambrosia would be better if you don't want to drive in... More

We recently stayed at the Callecanes just for one night as, like most guests, we were just passing through, over the weekend we travelled finding a room was very difficult so I phoned the hotel hoping they may have a room although booking websites showed none and luckily they had had a cancellation. The owner was very helpful luckily for me... Overall, an average and slightly pricey experience for what it was. We got off to a bad start when our credit card was charged via "dynamic conversion" into Pounds Sterling. For those who are not familiar, this is where the merchant converts the Euro amount directly into your home currency, at a generally unfavourable rate. This cost us an extra... More

Don't get too excited with the other reviews. The hotel is modern and clean and is run efficiently, it seems. It is located on the old border and it appears it is visited by people who are just passing by. It lacks of personality and there is no 24h service. A bit annoying the fact that you can't really control... More

All the previous reviews here are very fair and give an accurate impression of this good hotel. It is indeed rather oddly positioned alongside open fields, but near an unobtrusive lorry park, two petrol stations (with very cheap fuel and tobacco shops), and the old customs/border buildings. It is also difficult to find the right entrance (Tip: print out the... More

A very positive experience. The hotel is immaculate. The entrance is a little tricky to find - maybe signage on the main road could be improved. But once found, a delight! The restaurant meal was very good, (for a hotel), and the staffing was efficient and helpful. The rear of the hotel, and our first floor room, overlooked fields as... More

Kurt the owner of the hotel went out of his way to make us welcome, he was helpful and provided excellent service. Kurt put on the fire in the lounge as soon as we arrived. The lounge provided a wonderfully warm place to relax after a day's sightseeing. Breakfast was excellent. Evening meals were outstanding and very reasonably priced. The... More

I stayed for 2 nights with friends visiting a grave and Ypre. As with previous comments, do not worry about location. You drive around the back of a lorry park to the enterance where we were met by the owner Kurt. He showed us around a very clean and very modern Hotel. The rooms were overlooking open fields with very... More
