We took 4 of their 5 rooms for a family celebration [my 70th]. The host is extremely friendly & accommodating and the hotel full of character as you would expect from such an old hotel. We had the Wellington room which was excellent. Food is very good although the choice is a little limited. However, the wine was excellent &... More

Duck as you go upstairs and again when you enter the room. Enjoy the beams and the sloping floors. Dont book here if you crave modern facilities. The food was good but the choice a bit limited. More fish would have been good. Wine cellar well stocked. Very friendly. Breakfast ok. All in all happy to recommend but dont expect... More

We had a great stay here. We were attracted by the history - Charles II hid there and Wellington stayed there - and it did not disappoint. Beautiful fireplace and wonky sloping floors and ceilings. All 5 of us (3 kids) fitted in the family room comfortably. Friendly and welcoming. Dinner was great (kids meals divided beautifully), so was breakfast.... More

Had a lovely visit again 2nights ...love the low ceilings, wonky floors, old feel of this beautiful building! Its so nice 2 have such a friendly place 2 go all locals make you feel very welcome! Evening meal / pudding was delicious and both morning breakfast started our day well. Village store is stocked quite early and you can hear... More

The room was fine - lots of exposed timbers and lumpy plaster, and clean. As other reviews have mentioned, the sloping floor (and thus sloping bed!) makes for an uneasy night. The room was also rather noisy because of the thin plaster walls. Breakfast was fairly standard, but served to us at the Rose and Crown across the road. Elham... More

From the moment we arrived the staff was extremely accommodating. It is under new ownership and it is apparent the new proprietors are determined to make a go of it. We had an early departure (5:30 a.m) for a day trip to France and they offered to prepare us lunch for the journey. We declined but the chef arrived at... More

My stay at the Abbott's Fireside couldn't have been better. There were plenty of staff on arrival who were helpful and friendly. The building is incredible and has lots of interesting architectural quirks. The rooms are tastefully decorated and sympathetic to the character of the place. We had a great breakfast and it's well worth staying to sample the Sunday... More

We stayed here at the start and at the end of our holiday on the way to and returning from France in August 2012. When we arrived on the way out we reached the hotel at 18.15 in the evening. The hotel was totally locked and there was a notice on the door saying to call at the Rose and... More

I loved this place! It is a quaint old country Inn which is clearly steeped in history. The rooms are very tastefully done and the pub itself is lovely. The night I stayed they offered a dinner and drinks package - 3 courses and a glass of wine for £15 which is amazing value and the quality is spot on... More

Needed accommodation for a wedding at the nearby Old Kent Barn and stayed here for one night B&B which was £70 - quite reasonable albeit we didn't have the breakfast in the end. They also let us check in early to get ready which was really very flexible of them, many places wouldn't let you do that. The property is... More
