Hotel Savegre is what you expect when you reserve a slightly upscale nature lodge in a mountainous area. It's very lodge-y with nice, spacious rooms and hot water, in a real amazing cloud-forest surroundings. About 90%-100% of the guests here are bird watchers, and I was slightly an exception. I like watching tropical birds too, but I came here because...

We were greeted by a receptionist who didn't seem to care about what we wanted. She offered no help in getting our luggage to our room which was as far a way from the hotel as it could be be, up a hill and over a gravel road despite the fact that I had said I was finding walking up...

This hotels for birdwatchers. Getting there takes you on gravel steep hills which with rain would require 4x4. Not much to do there but watch birds, hike or walk. No nightlife nor anything near but a couple of restaurants. Food was great, rooms were average though clean. We saw a quetzal which made our day. Nice lounge bar. Couldnt believe...

My first stop in Costa Rica...a nascent birder, I was pleasantly surprised at the pristine environs, but the approachability of the fauna (including the hummers and tanagers close to the restaurant/reception). The coolness of the cloudforest helped w the hiking of Savegre's private trails and horseback riding. I was thrilled with the lack of biting insects and the fresh air...

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for two nights as part of a tour of Costa Rica. The journey to San Gerardo de Dota is a bit of an advneture in itself - up to about 10,000 feet on the Pan-American Highway then down a fabulous winding road to the hotel itself which is beautifully located in a...

I took a short 2 day trip with my 12 year old son to the hotel and we had an nice time. The room was very comfortable with enough blankets to comfortably sleep at night in spite of the cold. Some rooms have a chimney (ours did not) which makes it more romantic so keep it in mind in case...

My husband and I came to Savegre to bird watch, our first trip to Costa Rica. This beautiful resort is in a cloud forest. The rooms were beautiful. We had a fireplace, extremely comfortable beds, a bathroom with a spa tub. It is chilly at night, but we expected this, and actually liked it, we are from New Hampshire and...
