The chef is young and enthusiastic, he is there morning, noon and night turning out good food with some innovative twists. I got this on a wowcher deal and have to say we enjoyed it, the rooms were a good size, very clean and the staff friendly, would go again. Newcastleton is a small, very clean and tidy place, the... We stayed 2 nights on the wowcher deal and found the Liddlesdale hotel to be situated in the quaint village of newcastleton which we thought was a beautiful place perfect for walkers. The hotel itself is a typical Scottish village small hotel, possibly more of a pub with rooms. These were clean and tidy as we're the dining and bar... More

The welcome we received was....non existent. ..!! We walked into this very dark dim local inn, not expecting much, but a smile would have been nice. The lady who was serving behind the bar, just could not be bothered...she handed me a room key with no intentions of giving me any instructions on how to get to our room. The... More

We purchased a Wowcher deal for 2 nights B&B with 3 course meal on one night and whiskey tasting. The lady that greeted us could not force a smile and this continued the entire stay, although other staff were lovely. The hotel is rated AA 4 star, I can only assume the inspector was having an off day. We were... More

Stayed here twice in two weeks and each time everyone was friendly and attentive. Food was excellent. Breakfasts are just what you'd expect in Scotland, they come complete with haggis (if you like it!). Beautifully cooked locally sourced food. We ate in the bar a couple of nights and the food was excellent in value, presentation and tasty. One night... More

The Liddesdale sits next door to the Grapes Hotel (reviewed earlier) in Newcastleton and the approach here is different. The Grapes has an extensive menu, light bites, early bird menus and the like, whereas the Liddesdale has a short, chalk board menu. It looks a bit like bog standard pub grub, plain and simple but, and here's the good bit,... More

The food was very good, and the breakfast was exceptional. We where also made to feel very welcome by the locals who are very friendly. I would love to return... More

Great service, excellent food, friendly staff. Great rural location, overall a great base in the borders for any type of break whether it be for walking or just a quiet escape, great for exploring the border region, kielder or further afield.

Stayed 13/14 Oct 12 Have got to say that this is a fantastic little hotel in a beautiful bit of the countryside on the Scottish borders. The first thing we noticed when we checked into our room was that it was absolutely spotless and the bathroom was well appointed with a mixer shower that was more powerful than a lot... More
