stayed 6 nights while in tokyo in 9/2011 pros - the biggest advantage is near ueno park, which is a rarity in the concrete jungle of tokyo, a nice respite if tired of the lights and sounds and bustle of people. its in the museum district, also zoo, universities, etc -some rooms w computers -homey, quiet - free wifi -... We spent 4 nights in this Ryokan at the beginning of September. The ryokan do not require you to pay while checking in and provides tea, coffee and yukata for every one. We had a japanese room, which was quite big, with even a computer linked to internet inside ! The rate was 9.600Y per night for us, our baby... More

We stayed in this place for 3 nights. We felt so homey and treated excellent. The room comes with a very comfortable bed, computer usage inside the room (can you imagine that). also laundry service is free. The owner was really nice and tried to do the best for us. They asked us to write here that tokyo is now... More

First of all: It's completely safe to come to Tokyo. Yes there were a couple of afterquakes (most of which barely noticable), but they've stopped completely now. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT cancel your trip because of the earthquakes. The hostels are in a really tight spot right now because travellers are afraid for nothing. And think of it... More

We had a comfortable stay at the Ryokan. The moment we arrived, we were greeted by the manager who was very pleasant making us feel right at home. He gave some quick instructions and a guide map of surrounding areas. Our room was always kept clean and we had a nice rest after a long day of walking. The cable... More

I stayed at Ryokan Katsutaro twice in Jan 2011 and can fully recommend it. It was easy to find and only a 10min walk from Ueno station along a single road. The staff were very pleasant, the rooms were clean and comfortable. The accomodation is pretty standard ryokan and not set at a high level, but was more than you... More

The first and best thing about this place is we booked it once we were already on holiday. We didn't really have the time to do much research or worry about things so we did the whole thing on email. Our flight arrived at Narita Airport at 6am and I optomistically put 9am as our check-in time. When we arrived... More

Actually the worst I had during all my stay in Japan. But for one night stay it was ok. The positives are: it's only 15 minutes walk from Kaisei Ueno station, from where you have trains to Narita airport, free internet, free coffee and tea, cheap bikes to rent. Nevertheless, the place is a bit old, toilet is upstairs..(my room... More

Family of 5 - 11 yr old twins and an 8 yr old - all in one room. Somehow it just worked! This is Japan and small spaces are common so this room was not that large but average. It was spotless and incredibly quiet so sleeping was easy. We had our own bathroom but also used the common one... More
