I haven't stayed at the hotel but was a bit surprised at the glowing reviews as it looked very tired and old fashioned (although quirky and interesting in another way) and was almost deserted apart from a few old timers playing cards in the lobby. We ate in the restaurant, where the terrace has stunning mountain views but we were... More

When we travel we're looking for unique places that offer a very personal experience with the area and the people. Simona, the owner, greets you with a cheerful welcome. She explains the dinner plan (40 euro per person is a bit steep, but the dinner is very, very good) and the breakfast accommodations. Breakfast is served in the sacristy (preparation... More

Like the review below, I too have just stayed at this amazing hotel for a weeks singing course and cannot fault it. I had a lovely room on the second with *amazing* views over the mountains. Although furnished simply, the room was comfortable and the bathroom was fine too. The feel of the hotel is one of cosiness and comfort,... More

I just spent a week at Colomba d'Oro whilst in Triora for a singing course. I've travelled a great deal, and this is easily one of the best hotels I've stayed in, overall. Simona and Pierre are kind, gracious, attentive, and thoughtful. The staff is friendly, thorough, and understanding. And the food...my god, the food. Breakfast was, for me, a... More

The amazing massive 4 course buffet here is unmissable. I think they only do it Fri, Sat and Sundays but well worth going all 3 nights! Endless choice in the enormous table of starters, then the best pastas I have ever tasted, in the middle, then three sorts of succulent meats (there are also other thing you can eat at... More

Quite a nice place tucked up in the Ligurian mountains next to the tiny mountaintop village of Triora. Clean, up-to-date rooms, and a big, comfortable lobby with overstuffed chairs for lounging around. Lots of outdoor terrace space to enjoy the marvelous views over the valley. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Not everyone speaks English, but everything worked out just fine.... More

We loved staying here for an Argentine Tango weekend (they have one every last-weekend in May, and 2012 is already lined-up with Buenos Aires tango dancer, tango film-maker & author of tango books, Chan Park, so we shall be back then) and it was perhaps the best holiday we have had in over 25 years! A local organizes English-Italian "Tango... More

This was an interesting and unexpected place -- a nice hotel right where we needed it! We really liked it’s position in the valley, up and away from the busy Mediterranean seaside, and had fun walking through all of Triora’s narrow passages. This medieval village has such fascinating history, with the witch trials and world war and various uses of... More

The rooms on the top floor are not as quiet as you would expect. The view is great though!

Our hosts Simona and Pier were friendly, warm and inviting. We took the full board option with two of our midday meals in the form of a hamper which we enjoyed while walking through the breathtaking mountains. The meals were superb largely of local produce, enjoyed with local wine while we watched the mood of the town change as the day... More
