Hotel Paraiso sits in an spectacular, hard to reach place. Diego and Norma Rhodes, delightful, caring couple and it shows in their place. We only had lunch passing through, saw all the rooms, sparse but very clean all open to a beautiful courtyard and view of the Oso. Would have loved to have spend more time in this special place. more

Appreciate the great review, Sally, only one minor correction to keep me out of trouble. Norma is our daughter-in-law who also works in our family hotel. My wife is Ana Maria.

From the moment my partner and I arrived, Diego and Ana, along with their entire staff made us feel like family. The culture and history of the Tarahumara, is embraced throughout their entire facilities. The Happy Hour Maragaritas and meals were spectacular! Diego took us on a guided tour to the beautiful Cathedral and Tarahumara girls' school, in Cerocahui. We... more

If you are used to the Best Western or Howard Johnson ilk and are anticipating plastic and shiny stainless, then this is not the place for you. If, however, you are looking for a cultural richness, down-home atmosphere and an hospitable introduction to back-country Mexico, this place is a treasure.  I wandered in one afternoon without a reservation (didn't even... more

This was my second visit to the Hotel Paraiso del Oso. Last year, my girlfriend and I did a 6 day trek from the Hotel to Urique, with mules carrying our gear. "Diego", the owner of the Hotel, has contacts with many of the local Tarahumara Indians and we camped several nights on Tarahumara land above Urique and Batopilas. I... more

Avoid this place at all costs if you value being treated as a paying guest. The owner is more interested in himself than making your stay enjoyable. The location is lovely but remote and only suited to horse riding. The rooms are rustic and basic, the wood fires are fab in the evening but by morning my husband had to... more

Contrary to the overly positive reviews online, we experienced a total absence of customer attention. Despite 2 follow-ups prior to arrival and big-mouthed assurances, we WERE NOT PICKED UP at the CHEPE Train Station as agreed. Imagine having travelled 32 hours from Switzerland, arriving in Cerocahui Train Station and nobody there to pick you up.! Taxis were non-existent. A merciful... more

The author has a write to be upset. I failed to to pick them up at the station. Instead my competitor picked them up. On arrival here the author and her husband spoke harsh words, refused to accept an apology for my error and said they did not wish to stay with us. I immediately offered them a refund which...

I just returned from spending two fabulous weeks at the charming Paraiso del Oso hotel, outside Cerocahui. The experience was absolutely wonderful. The hotel is nestled in a valley with great views of the rock cliffs towering above the valley. The scenery in the sounding area is breath-taking. The hiking and riding trails are endless. The hotel is family owned... more

the owner, diego, was out of town but we were met by a volunteer, david, who was very friendly and filled us in about the place, the location with lots of possibilities of things to do, and about the people. there's plenty to do around the area whether you want a lengthy hike or just a day hike. for the... more

After busy days of traveling to small pueblos to provide dental treatment, the Oso was an oasis offering good food, great accommodations and the charming quiet bar area was the perfect area to relax and discuss our dental trip. The hotel is owned and run by Ana and Doug Rhodes. They have always made us feel welcome and spend time... more

I have traveled extensively in Mexico and have never had the owners of a hotel take such an interest in their clients. The tours were detailed and extensive. The food in the hotel is five-star and the presentation and service a wonderful surprise. (Great bar and popcorn!) The location is wonderfully remote with easy access to tons of hiking and... more
