As a lone traveller I called in at the Allan Ramsay Hotel for an early evening meal. I was asked to wait in the bar and the very pleasant young lady who was looking after the bar brought a menu. I was told there would be a 15 minute wait for the food and bought a drink from the bar.... More

We were on our way to Edinburgh to drop one son off at the bus station and pick another son up at the bus station. We were hungry and decided to stop somewhere along the way. Luck would have it that we stopped at the Allan Ramsay Hotel. Even though it was mid week the food was great. Real chips!... More

We have only eaten twice since the hotel has been under new management. On both occasions we were very taken by the quality of the food and the value. Top marks really because I imagine it must be awfully difficult to occupy the area of the market which does well above good pub food. Slightly disappointingly few of the "specials"... More

We live about 15 minutes from The Allan Ramsay and have been going there (on and off) for about thirty-five years. The building began life as a wool store for what was then the weaving village of Carlops. Somewhere along the way, it was converted to a pub and has been run by various people - some okay, some useless....... More

Out for a Tuesday night dinner we decided to try the Allan Ramsay as we'd only ever driven past on the way to Edinburgh. All I can say is it was well worth the stop, we had a warm welcome and not just from the lovely open fire. The service was great, friendly and attentive and the food was great,... More

The welcome from Gareth and his staff was superb, Gareth and his young family have had the hotel for just 3 months and are working hard to turn it round and winning! The food was excellent all the meat from a local butcher the Steak Pie was delicious. Rooms are a little on the small side but spotless. Breakfast was... More

On one of our weekly visits to the Allan Ramsey, sometimes twice weekly which we both enjoy (ooh the chips and the steak), we sat down to our favourite Rib Eye and Merlot wine. Before our meel was served, my wife and I, were both concerned about the amount of FLY,S, hovering around. This was mentioned to a member of... More

On arrival, at dinner, at breakfast and when leaving for a day trip we made sure that staff understood that we would not return until well after midnight and very likely around 1:00 AM that night. We were assured that the back door would remain unlocked for us to enter and if, by some chance it was not, that two... More

I was due to attend an event at Carlops Village Hall, and (having never been to that area before) took note of this detail from the village web site – “The Allan Ramsay Hotel in Carlops will be glad to arrange for a meal before the show or a supper afterwards. Contact Carl at [--]”. I called the hotel to... More
