We stayed there with our 13 year old granddaughter. It's very charming and nice, lots of history. Unfortunately Simon was away, Dorothea gave us some background history, but apparently Simon is the historian. Be aware that this is a very quiet, secluded area, so if you want any kind of evening activities in the nearby towns, everything shuts down early.... more

This Chateau has been in the same family for 27 generations and the owners welcome you just like a family member. My husband and I do not speak any french so we were delighted that this family is English/French so language was not a barrier. When looking at hotels in the area they were close in price but the breakfast... more

What better preparation for our young kids than a real, live chateau before we invaded Disney Paris? And so fantastically romantic for mommy & daddy too. Above all, it was the little touches that counted - recommendation on where to eat every night (of a week-long stay), advice on what to see and what not to bother about. The romantic... more

This chateau has been lovingly restored and is, in a word, fabulous! I have stayed in many chateaux in France, both hotel-run and privately-owned, and this is by far the best I have experienced. The rooms are huge and gorgeously decorated with Laura Ashley fabrics, the bathrooms are large and modern, the grounds and out-buildings are a wonder to explore.... more

I would not take away a comma of the previous outsanding reviews -- the beauty of the location, property and stunning rooms, the graciousness and generosity of the owners Simon and Dorothea, the ease by which one can get to anywhere within Normandy in less than 40 minutes cannot be stated emphatically enough. But there is more to it than... more

Bon Jour Dorthy and Simon, Sorry for the late review. Just found this posting. The vist was our most favorite in two months stay in France. They make you feel as if Chateau de l'Isle-Marie is home. Make sure you eat at the little resturant that Dorthy and Simon recommend near Utah beach. When you arrive just say please feed... more

After a busy jaunt through Paris, the Chateau de l'Isle Marie was a step back in pace, and time. From the immaculate and spacious rooms to the gardens, old buildings and natural landscape, this chateau is a MUST for anyone seeking a REAL chateau experience. This is NOT a typical spot - it's authentic; you can roam the grounds with... more

I can't say enough about Chateau de L'isle-Marie. To begin with, the chateau itself is spectacular, and one of the only hotels I have been to where the pictures truly do not do it justice. The common areas, dining room, living room, foyer, are straight out of a Hollywood movie set in the 1800s, and the bedrooms and bathrooms are... more

Dorthea and Simon are exceptional hosts. You would have to look long and far to find two people like them who want your experience with them to be the best. The guests who use this historic chateau are great breakfast companions, and come from all walks of life. The grounds and location make it an ideal place to have the "Normandy"... more

Staying at the Isle De Marie Chateau is truly a unique experience due to it's beautiful location, it's long and colorful history and the outstanding service provided by the management and staff. The fact that the Chateau has been in the same family since the 11th century and that they were willing to describe the history of the family and... more
