We are glad we read the other positive reviews carefully and followed their advice such as privately reserving the bath, using the ryokan as a luggage dropoff when arriving early in the day and then leaving late the next day to have plenty of time in Miyajima, sitting in their upstairs lounge at night. It was nice to be able... More

This ryokan is run by a truly gracious couple, located near the Miyajima pier, this is a comfortable ryokan where excellent food is served. The lodgings are comfortable and the owners are very nice people. Though slightly expensive, we had a very pleasant stay here. More

awesome place on a wonderful island. i only could stay one night since i was there during high season in November so all the hotels were occupied. not many ryokans offer affordable rooms for single travelers. it was one of the nicest and most friendly hotel I ever head. The owner was very helpful, speaks great English, provided a lot... More

Overall, a wonderful experience. We felt welcome at Ryoso Kawaguchi, and would recommend it. Good: - Food tasted fantastic (we had the regular dinner and Japanese breakfast), with a view of the courtyard. Great kaiseki experience. - Just 5 minutes' walk to the Itsukushima torii gate, so you can go anytime you wish. (you can't see the shrine or torii... More

Was a great experience to stay here. It's about a 10 min. walk from the ferry with clear directions given. I think i had the cheapest option with a japanese style room, dinner in the evening and a choice of western or japanese breakfast. This is 12600 yen. Think its worth it. The room is very big, with a private... More

This hotel was beautiful. Our hostess was lovely and very welcoming. She spoke good English. The hotel had really nice family style baths which was a nice way to refresh from the heat. The rooms were okay - perhaps could use a bit of paint and the futon wasn't very comfy but we slept well. By far the best thing... More

We highly recommend this ryokan if you want to have a feel of real Japanese family hospitality and culture. It's charm lies in the fact that it is small ( 7 rooms only I think ) & personally run by the Kawaguchis themselves. The husband is an excellent cook & like other reviews have mentioned before, it was our best... More

We enjoyed the unbelievable 8-course dinners - as described by others. We had a western breakfast which was also very nice. There are two spacious familiy baths - we really loved them! The loft room we decided to go for was was nice, spacious, with two western beds on the upper level as an options for those that cannot sleep... More

This ryokan served the best food I had in Japan: an eight-course meal including sashimi, a hot pot cooked at the table, fish, chicken and beef. The Japanese breakfast was also delicious. Our room was large with a loft and the ryokan also had an upstairs room where you could sit and admire the view of the pagoda and surrounding... More
