The Yamaichi Bekkan is a simple Japanese Inn located opposite the pier where the JR and Hiroden ferries arrive. The owner, Shinko-san, offers an extremely warm welcome. She speaks good basic English and makes you feel part of the family. As owner of specialist Japan travel company InsideJapan Tours, I first visited here in 2003 as part of a trip... More

Across the road from the ferry terminal, we had a very warm welcome from Shinko-san, the owner. Her English is good and she will help you with maps and directions to make the most of your time on Miyajima. The room was a good size, clean and comfortable - nothing fancy but good enough. We didn't eat in the ryokan... More

You couldn't hope for a bigger welcome or fresher seafood. Our room was large with a sea view, own bathroom and traditional layout. The meals were great - loved the oysters - and it seems as good a location as any on such a small island. Very friendly and memorable More

My point is clear: please avoid this hotel (can you even call that a ryokan?). There are many reasons such as tiny rooms, dirty bathrooms and no common bath (not to mention hot spring) to make up for it, the necessity to come back before 12 midnight, the lack of comfort, the position right next to the ferry arbor, the... This place was the highlight of our trip: we had a huge ryokan-style room, nice view, were served very nice food and the lady at the reception was so friendly! I can understand that one can be misled by all these positive sounding reviews. We had not been influenced by it, just booked the room two hours in advance in... More

This is the best value for a Japanese style hotel on Miyajima. The lady at the reception desk was extremely nice and very helpful. Our room with bath was fine -- tiny bath, small to medium size room. It is an older place, that is showing a bit of wear, but it is more than adequately clean and comfortable. It... More

I am 9 years old and I came here with my mum and dad and I loved it! The owner of the hotel was very friendly. Also the breakfast was absolutely delicious with japanese style, rice, misou soup, fish etc. The room was huge and very cozy , there was a big sleeping area with extremely comfortable beds, a table... I can't rant and rave about this Ryokan enough, for me it was perfection. Ok so this Ryokan isn’t the prettiest on the block, it’s not big and fancy and posh, but it has the most heart and character of anywhere I stayed on my 3 week trip round Japan. The building is a fairly normal looking 4-story house right... More

We spent one night in this charming hotel and we've enjoyed ourselves very much. The room was spacious,( Japanese style and it was big even in western terms) and clean, the food was great and the owner and her son were very gracious and made us feel very welcome under their roof. The location is great - it's just across... More

Location - Miyajima is fantastic, one of the highlights of our trip to Japan, highly recommend staying overnight. - Map on website is misleading, it's directly opposite the JR pier, don't walk left up towards the school. - Being directly opposite the pier was an awful location considering Miyajima is tiny, you can have a hotel/ryokan almost anywhere on this...
