In 2009 we felt we were in a rut with B&Bs, so were looking for some new-to-us garden B&Bs around Alencon or l'Aigle. We made reservations at several places, including La Basse Cour. It requires a two-night stay, otherwise we'd have reserved for only one night since we were just trying it out. But as it turned out, La Basse... more

The owners make you feel very welcome when you arrive. We stayed in the cream room which was spotlessly clean. Fresh bed linen and towels - they smelt amazing! A lovely breakfast is provided every morning. We can recommend the local restaurant in the village for a meal and La Hanger in Alencon. The library and sitting area is fully... more

We Googled for a convenient stop over on the way back to Caen and luckily found La Basse Cour. Phil and Jude make you feel really welcome in their beautifully renovated and immaculate farm house which is conveniently situated on the edge of the charming village of Ancinnes overlooking open farm land. Their rooms are very comfortable, tastefully decorated and... more

An excellent stopover to the Dordogne being exactly halfway Calais/Bergerac. Rooms very clean, spent a comfortable night. Recommended. Unfortunately we had to listen to an overnight frog chorus from the pond but we don't suppose this happens very often, and it was worth it to be able to report "we were kept up by the frogs" which we have dined... more

Thank you for your review. The frogs, along with the dragonflies, ducks, grebes, herons and moorhens, are all part of the entertainment when you live near water in the French countryside. I hope you can find time for more than a stopover next time, as you'll find the frogs are normally very well behaved and the area is a delight...

This is our second stay at La Basse Cour, and I cant praise the the owners Phil & Jude highly enough, nothing is too much trouble, the location is perfect, the rooms are quaint, clean and welcoming and the breakfasts are excellent, with fresh bread and pastries, which Phil collects from the local bakery on his bike every morning, Thanks... more

Thank you for your review - and for the photos. Perhaps Jude and I should open a photo competition for all the photos that have been posted! Best wishes, Phil

What can I say that nobody else has said, just that this is the perferct French retreat for the region. Phil and Jude are the best hosts with nothing being too much trouble (even 5 or 6 lads don't put them off). The Chambre d'hote is second to none with its idylliac location, French character running through, the great lake... more

Many thanks for your message - always good to get feedback, even nicer when it's positive! Glad you enjoyed the neighbours' impromptu choir practice. :D

Its the second time I have stayed with Phil and Jude in their wonderful farmhouse. They are the perfect hosts who can't do enough to help you. The house is set in wonderful grounds that are perfectly looked after. Inside the house is perfectly in keeping with the surrounding area and spotlessly clean. We use the farmhouse as a base... more

We have been going to the Le Mans Moto GP for the last four years and the thing that keeps us returning to the same race is the quality of the accomodation, which is without doubt the best B+B I have had the pleasure of staying in. The rooms are spotlessly clean with excellent facilities and Phil and Jude always... more

Thanks to the Northampton crew for your wonderful reviews - it's very much appreciated. You'll be missed next year - hope you decide to do the French GP again in the not too distant future after trying a change of country next season! Love, Phil & Jude XXX PS The new Coin Café (Tea and Coffee Bar) in the guest...

A wonderful, quiet B&B with well appointed rooms and a friendly welcome. An ideal location for trips to the nearby towns of Alencon or Le Mans, or for wider excursions throughNormandy. Only 30mins from the Le Mans Circuit if considering a visit to a motorsport event. Alternatively, just relax in the peace and quiet of the local countryside or cycle... more

As always the house, rooms & gardens were beautifully kept. The lake and gardens provide a picturesque setting for this pretty 'Farm House' in it's quiet village location. Phil & Jude are wonderful, helpful hosts - which is one of the reasons we have always stayed with them whenever we come to watch the racing at Le Mans, in fact... more
