Two nights in the Pheasant is my idea of heaven. Wonderful friendly staff, great food, beers and wine. There is a nearby spa if you want it but we were keen as mustard to get back here each evening. We haven't found a downside. Book now, but not when we want to come back!! More

We booked a table in the Bistro. The food was great, between the 4 of us we had the steak, battered haddock and chips, smoked haddock with egg, mash and cheese sauce and the liver and bacon. All lovely. The sweets were delicious too. Had a drink in the bar afterwards - lots of character. The staff worked very hard... More

Sunday roast beef £16. We got beef and a yorkshire pudding, 1 boiled new potato and a spoon of swede mash. All the other tables had side dishes with lots of vegetables.Ours never arrived so we asked the waitress about our veg. She apologised and went to the kitchen. When she came back she said the kitchen had ran out... More

We have been coming here for more than 30 years and the bar lunch in the lounge has never failed to please. New (ish) owners have smartened up the Pheasant but, mostly, kept the very special character of the place (the exception is the rather dull bistro fashioned from the old dining room when the new uber-smart restaurant was built... This Inn is full of character. The bar areas are cosy and traditional, with loads of beautiful wooden panelling and a roaring fire. But the welcome was somewhat impersonal, and dining in the bistro was disappointing. There is no carpet, and it was not busy when we went, so a family with their two lively children made a disproportionate amount... More

We were staying at Broughton Craggs Hotel nr Cockermouth but wanted somewhere special for a meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary on 31st March so Googled 'fine dining near Keswick' & came across the Fell Restaurant at The Pheasant. It's was the perfect choice for a special occasion with a 3 course dinner including hors d'ouvres & petit fours with... More

as soon as you walk through the doors here, you know you are in a special place. the lounges have roaring fires, quality books to read, lots of comfy chairs. The bar is i think over 300 years old- and pretty much unchanged- since famous huntsman John Peel used to drink here. Either the restaurant or the bistro are superb;... More

The Pheasant Inn is a country hotel tucked away off the main road near Bassenthwaite and is full of charm and friendly fires. But if dining in the bar or bistro, don't necessarily expect value for money. Apart from the very smart, separate restaurant, this is not much more than an over-priced bistro pub, with city prices. One of our... More

The Pheasant Inn is in a beautiful location and has a lovely and warm atmosphere. The bar is olde worlde and serves delicious food, the bistro is super for simpler food, and the restaurant is great. The place is as pretty as a picture! More

Welcoming well appointed gastro-pub with rooms. Cosy bar, good ales, comfy lounges one with open fire and one with wood burning stove. Bistro meal was OK but not more, breakfast was very good. We booked a one night Saturday by ringing for a room at 16:00 (apparently the don't actually take single night Saturday bookings). DBB was offered at £220... More
