Points of Interest

1. Beginning of Road

Here, you enter Jedediah Smith State Park from the back side. This is a VERY narrow road, so please don't attempt it with RV's or trailers. At times, the road is very muddy and slick, so be sure you are comfortable in adverse driving conditions before you head in to the park on this road.

2. Second Growth Trees

The first mile or so of the road is entirely surrounded by second growth redwoods and other coastal forest.

3. Old Growth Redwoods

After a bit, you'll enter the old growth section of the forest and start to weave around the bases of enormous trees as you head northeast.

4. 300+ft Trees

The canopy is over 300ft above you at this point. There are entire ecosystems that you can't even see in the upper portions of the canopy.

5. Clusters of Old-Growth

In places, the redwoods grow in clusters, big enough to hide a house behind.

6. More Massive Redwoods

These huge trees are nearly 2000 years old!

7. Winding Road

The road was built around the trees - they were here first by thousands of years. Because of the twists, be careful of oncoming traffic and be polite to let people pass where there are turnouts.

8. Road Bridge

Out here, the one lane bridge can provide a choke point as cars slowly pass over it looking out into the clearings provided by the stream.
