Board the cable car that ascends this 390-foot granite mountain, which offers superb views of the city. Go at dusk to witness a glorius sunset.
Day 2
Whether to attend a show or take a tour, it’s worth seeing this lavish 1909 theater, filled with gilded mirrors, statues, murals, stained-glass windows and sparkling chandeliers.
With architecture inspired by the Mayan pyramids of Mexico, the conical shape is believed to give proximity to God. Four stained glass windows run from floor to ceiling forming a cross at the top. Acoustics are "heavenly" here!
Originally a fort and ammunition depot, the National History Museum today houses permanent and temporary exhibitions marking the social and economic history of Brazil. HIghlights include an extensive numismatic collection, a sacred art exhibit of shrines and paintings, and an exhibit devoted to carriages and transportation.
The CCBB is a cultural center that consists of exhibition rooms, three theaters, a library, cinema, and a video room. It is housed in an art deco style building located in what used to be the financial district of Rio de Janeiro.
Day 3
Popularized by the song "The Girl from Ipanema," this world-famous beach gives foreign visitors a sense of life in Rio, displaying a cross-section of different lifestyles, chic boutiques and eateries and luxurious apartment buildings.
Avenida Atlantica, with the iconic wavy sidewalk mosaic of Roberto Burle Marx, is ideal for strolling along Copacabana Beach. It is lined with beachside kiosks offering refreshments such as a chilled coconut, and at the far end is a quaint area where fishermen bring their fresh catch ashore.
The Plataforma Samba Show represents the rhythmic and colorful dances of Brazilian folklore, often featuring the prior year's Carnival winning Samba school dancers. There is the option to have dinner before the show, but the real attraction is the Samba dance performances.
