I night after the 10 hour flight from UK - pleasant enough with decent breakfast choice.

  • 2. Hill City
    Hill City, South Dakota

Long drive from Denver approx 7 hours but definately ok to do in a day. Stayed for 5 nights at Holiday Inn Express and Suites. 10 mins gentle walk (max) to town. Ideal for exploring Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, 1880 Train, Bear Country USA (love those little bears). Good full day to Badlands Loop (wow), Dont waste time with Wall Drug Store unless you want ot buy lots of tacky presents. Long trip to Devils Tower from here, included Deadwood - nice if you like slots! Hill City has a selection of places to eat - tried a different one each night. Desperados by far the best. Didnt bother with Alpine Inn due to huge wait. Best Western restaurant also good.

Very Good Value. 2nd floor suite for $75 incl breakfast. Very quiet and clean. Nice enough pool. Laundry facilities. etc etc.

  • 4. Best Western The Plaza Hotel
BEST WESTERN PLUS Plaza Hotel, Thermopolis, Wyoming

1 night on route to Jackson. Very very nice suites. Reasonable Breakfast. In Hot Springs Park which was good location for a look/walk around. Ate in Holiday Inn opposite - appalling food, service - basically everything. Try the town - it couldnt be any worse.

  • 5. Wyoming Inn of Jackson Hole
Wyoming Inn of Jackson Hole, Jackson, Jackson Hole

2 nights of luxury. Room was lovely on 3rd floor. Bed was to die for. Good breakfast selection. Free bus shuttle to middle of town where there are loads of restaurants. Try mexican in Merry Piglets. Hotel about 20-30 mins walk from centre but nice for a stroll back in the evening. Choc Chip cookies at hotel in evening. mmmmmm.

  • 6. Jackson
    Jackson, Jackson Hole

Probably busiest place we stayed. Loads of shops and tourists! No more than a half hour drive from Teton National Park. Wow. Jenny Lake gorgeous at 7am. Do not miss cable car ride to top of Rendevous Point. If you dont like heights close your eyes.

  • 7. Lake Yellowstone Hotel
Lake Yellowstone Hotel and Cabins, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

Stayed 3 nights. A bit surreal. Hotel common areas are nice and spacious. Rooms a bit tired but your not here for the room. Great place for sunsets and sunrises. Staff generally helpful. Ate in restaurant all three nights - a fourth would have tested the extent of the menu. Food ok to good but not what i woudl call gourmet.

  • 8. Yellowstone National Park
    Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

2 loops needs 2 full days. Probably best to stay in different hotels. Staying in one meant you are a long way from something. Loads to see - personally Old Faithful was probably the least interesting. Sapphire Pool and Prismatic Pool (Lake?) are stunning. So are the falls and Artists Point. Loads of wildlife - black bears, wolves, elk and those pesky critters - buffalo - all over the road. Most memorable was gettiing to West Thumb at 7.30am before everyone else and with 4 elk wandering amongst the geysers it was gorgeous. For breakfast and lunch snacks use the General Stores which are excellent. When driving be prepared to stop (and stop again) at very short notice.

  • 9. Hotel Wolf
    Hotel Wolf, Saratoga, Wyoming

Stopped here for 1 night on long drive back to Denver Airport. Room 17 was great. Bar was great. Restaurant was great. Dont miss this hotel.

  • 10. Denver International Airport

Having flown from Heathrow (dump) just a word about DenverAirport. So clean, tidy efficient etc etc. Why cant we do this?
