Taroudant, my hometwon, that is an hour away from Agadir, is known as Grand-mother of Marrakech, and was the capital of Morocco once. Good place to get to see Real Morocco !

1. Taroudant
Town and province of the Region Souss-Massa-Draa, east of Agadir, Taroudant was a trading post on the way of caravans coming from Saharan provinces (Ghana, Sudan, Mali). Thanks to its gold and silver mines, the town developed remarkably in the 11th c and it had indeed a great influence over Moroccan civilization. Surrounded by red ochre walls, Taroudant is one of the most elegant towns in the south. Taroudant's rich bazaars reflect a strong artcraft tradition.
2. Taroudant Wall
Wall of Taroudant, was built in the 16th century, and is 7.5 kilometers long. Unlike most cities, such as Fez, Meknes, and Marrakesh, Taroudant does not have a real ville nouvelle. Most of all the city is contained within the wall that was built to protect the city from any possible attacks. Today it remains as a precious historical monument.
Souks( Open and traditional markets) are a must see while in Taroudant. You don't have to buy anything if you don't feel like doing so, but a walk in the souks is fun and a source of amusement. Exotic goods are found in these markets. Little harrasment and prices are very reasonable and low compared to other places like Agadir or Marrakesh.
Hotel Palais Salam is one of the favourite hotels for tourists. It used to belong to a former Pasha who lived in Taroudant so it stands first as a historical monument. However, this hotel can be a bit pricey especially in the high season but it would be well worth it. Book in advance if this hotel is where you want to stay.
