  • 1. Montana Avenue
    http://www.montanaave.com/home/index.asp

This is where it's all boutiques, not one chain to be found. One of a kind shops, all family/privately owned small businesses.

  • 2. Main Street
    http://www.mainstreetsm.com/

More one of a kind shops, everything from skateboarding to beads. You'll find a couple well known designer's shops here.

  • 3. The Promenade
    http://www.thirdstreetpromenade.org/visitors/index.html

While you'll find the Gap and Urban Outfitters and other chain stores here, there are a few little gems, too. But everything you need is here, and it's and enormous outdoor shopping area by the beach. Kids will love the street performers. The best part is that on Wed and Sun is the world-famous Farmer's Market.

  • 4. Abbot Kinney
    http://www.abbotkinneyonline.com/

While technically not Santa Monica, it's close enough to Main Street to include in a day of westside shopping. Abbot Kinney is known for it's amazing restaurants, furniture stores, boutiques, and artisan shops. Must not be missed.
