Looking for Frost in Summer

13 May 2006  California poet/personal essayist looking for inspiration on the OTHER coast.
1.5 of 5 stars based on 3 votes

As a third-generation Californian, I normally camp in the Sierras, the redwoods, or at the beach for a one-week summer break. This year I resolve to do something completely foreign: go to New England! I'm intrigued by tiny seacoast towns and remote mountain resorts. To add to the attraction, I've been teaching high school English this year, including the poetry of Robert Frost. I want to find out for myself what that landscape actually looks like; if the mysterious quality that pervades his poetry came from the man, or if it was inspired by the landscape.
