Traveling to the Georgia coast for a golf trip? This list gives you the low down on area courses and restaurants.

  • 1. Sea Island Resort
The Lodge at Sea Island, Saint Simons Island

Sea Island Resort encompasses the Cloister Hotel, The Lodge at Sea Island and numerous cottages scattered along the beach at Sea Island.

Included on Sea Island property are three championship golf courses; Retreat, Seaside and Plantation. Each course is very well maintained and laid out, though Seaside has the best views and receives a majority of the accolades.

The resorts also sport two fine dining restaurants, the Georgian Room at the Cloister and Colt and Alison at the Lodge. Both are outstanding and extremely expensive. Sea Island also features the Beach Club for more casual dining and Davis Love Grill which is great for a pre or post round luncheon.

  • 2. Laurel Island Links
    Laurel Island Links, Kingsland

This is an 18 hole golf course situated mid way between Jacksonville airport and Sea Island. Excellent choice for an arrival or departure round if flight arrangements allow. Only 2 minutes from the connecting interstate, the course is very nice and an outstanding value.

  • 3. The Golf Club at North Hampton
The Golf Club at North Hampton, Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island

This is an 18 hole golf course situated mid way between Jacksonville and Sea Island. It is about 15 minutes from the interstate on the road that leads to Amelia Island. The course is well maintained and good value. Good choice for an arrival or departure round if schedule permits.

  • 4. J Macs
    J. Mac's Island Restaurant, Saint Simons Island

Outstanding restaurant in the heart of St. Simon's Island. Excellent staff and superb dining experience. HIGHLY recommend.

  • 5. Sanctuary Cove

This is an 18 holes golf course mid way between Jacksonville and Sea Island. It is two minutes from the interstate that connects Jacksonville with Sea Island. The course is only one year old and needs to mature. Once it does, it should be an excellent tract. Very affordable and the staff is very accomodating.

  • 6. Chelsea's

Disappointing restaurant on the ocean on St. Simon's Island. Understaffed and poorly managed.
