Most visitors fly in through Chandigarh International Airport, located in Punjab, India.  This airport has numerous domestic and international flights.  Air India, Jet Airways, GoAir, Air Mantra, IndiGo and SpiceJet are some of the airlines servicing the area. An alternative is to fly into another airport in the region, such as Chandigarh (code IXC) and hire a car and driver for the 67 kilometre drive to Patiala. Main Attractions in Patiala:

An excellent start to the day is a walk or jog through the Baradari Gardens. Several hectares of rare and exotic plants and trees with elegant architectural touches and sculpture are found here. One of the city's most popular attractions is the ancient Kali Temple. The multi-limbed goddess is richly dressed in a glittering red and gold gown and displayed against an ornate gold backdrop. As it is an active temple, visitors should be reverent at all times.  

The Qila Mubarak Complex is ten acres in the centre of the city containing the main palace and guesthouses once used by the royal family. Bazaars ring the complex selling hand-crafted jeweled ornaments and locally woven fabrics. The Sheesh Mahal, or Palace of Mirrors, houses a large number of fine frescoes and is the home of the famous Lakshman Jhula bridge across the lake. All in all, Patiala flights bring visitors to an extraordinary tourist's destination.  

Patialia is home to many different types of sports and teams, including cricket, shooting, skating and hockey. Sports-loving visitors are encouraged to check the schedules of the Dhruv Pandove Grounds, the Raja Bhalinder Stadium and the National Institute of Sports for the chance to be part of the rollicking local athletic culture.  The Moti Bagh Gun Club features a state of the art shotgun range and the training ground for the Indian Shotgun Team.

 No visit to Patiala is complete without a shopping trip to the bazaars for the stunning locally made fabrics and garments. Start where the locals shop, the Adalat Bazaar, and find the perfect Phulkari (large tasseled wrap). Now on to the Qila Bazaar, on the outer walls of the Qila Mubarak Complex, for elaborate leather juttis (traditional slipper-style shoes) covered in gold embroidery and beading. Every outfit is accented with a locally made paranda (tassel for braiding hair).  

The nightlife offers some discos and bars (usually only at the major resorts.) After dark, join the locals at one of the half-dozen cinemas for foreign, American and Bollywood movies. For cuisine options, you will find options near the bazaars (one of the best ways to sample local foods) and Leela Bhawan. You will also find a variety of international chain restaurants available. With cheap airfares and cheap tickets to Patial, India available, you can spend a bit of extra time in the city enjoying the culture and sampling the food.
