Arriving at Kozhikode, India

Cheap flights to Kozhikode arrive at the Kozhikode Airport, sometimes also called the Calicut International Airport. The airport serves very few international flights (mostly from the Gulf countries where many native Keralites work) and you will have to board Kozhikode flights from nearby cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad or Thiruvanathapuram. Air India, Indigo, Jet Airways, and Jet Connect are some of the prominent airlines flying from the Kozhikode airport.

You can also reach Kozhikode via train, bus or private car. Many tourists prefer to travel by train as the city is well connected to nearby metropolitan centres, including Thiruvananthapuram, Bengaluru and Chennai. Travelling by road is not recommended because of the threat of wild elephants on the road.

Getting Around Kozhikode, India

Once you enjoy one of the cheap flights to Kozhikode, you have several options for travelling within the city. Travelling by local train can be a cheap and enjoyable way to get around the city. Most tourists prefer to take taxis or auto-rickshaws that can be identified by yellow and black markings. Auto-rickshaws are numerous and can be found at virtually every street corner. Although they tend to be competitively priced, make sure to negotiate the fare before you get in the vehicle as drivers are known to inflate fares dramatically for tourists.

Tourists also have the option of renting private cars from one of the many travel agencies dotting the city. These cars are comfortable and supplied with a driver, making it extremely easy to get around Kozhikode and nearby areas. For travelling over short distances, cycle-rickshaws are a popular transport method. Many tourists also prefer to eschew motorized transport in favour of walking or cycling.
