Arriving in Bangkok

Cheap flights to Bangkok make it possible for tourists to visit the capital of Thailand with ease. With 11 million people calling it home, this city is the largest in the country. Two airports serve Bangkok. The Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang airports provide the best access to the city. Most airlines use the Suvarnabhumi Airport, except for Air Asia, Orient Thai and Nok Air, which use Don Muang airport for Bangkok flights. Both airports are about 30 kilometres from the downtown area of Bangkok. Suvarnabhumi Airport is an ultra-modern airport and is the busiest in Southeast Asia. It services both international and domestic flights. Direct, cheap flights from Europe and Asia readily come into both airports.

Getting Around Bangkok

The hardest part of your trip to Bangkok will be getting around. Traffic is heavy and it takes time to navigate the somewhat complex layout of roads. Bangkok flights land close enough to the city that you can use public transit once you arrive. You can take the BTS Skytrain as your main method for getting around. It covers the downtown area and Siam Square. There is also the Metro, or MRT, which will take you from the Hualamphong Train Station to Bang Sue Train Station. Though not as heavily used by tourists as the Skytrain, it is a good option nonetheless. You can also consider riding down the Chao Phraya River. This is the least expensive method and one of the most popular options for navigating the area. It's much like a bus, but it moves along the river. Metered taxis are another affordable option, as long as you don't let taxi drivers take advantage of you.
