Things to do in Kumarakom - Tourist Places in Kumarakom
"A vast expanse of a lake stretching from Kochi in the north down to Allepey in the South, vembanad lake plays host to thousands of visiting travellers and migratory birds alike around its shores. A confluence of 3 rivers, its surrounded by lush marshlands on the kumarokam side and fertile paddy fiel..."ds around the R Block on the kollam side.
Things to do - Hop on a houseboat and take a sunset sail overnight from allepey to kumarakom, hire a speedboat or a catamaran and explore the marshlands around kumarakom, make a short day trip to "padirimanal", a small uninhabited islet in the middle of the lake, or just simply enjoy the vast serenity and tranquil of the lake while staying in any of the numerous resorts which dot the fringes of the lake.
Pollution is a little cause for concern. With so many migratory birds visiting the place, the govt and the tourism operators should chip to control and manage much debris from polluting the lake perimeter.

"We experienced this lake and its backwaters via Alleppy, when we rented a 'shikara' by the hour for four hours.
The lake was beautiful - watching varied birds on this lake, also the handsome houseboats cruising or anchored.
It was enjoyable passing local houses located just at the bank of narrow can..."als where ladies were fishing for their meals, young boys swimming laps across their breadths... What a peaceful life untouched by the stress and hustle of the city!!
We stopped at Coffee Macaw, a restaurant which served us a delicious meal of king prawns and carimen fish.... we also tried our hand at appams and the kerala plate...
Beautiful!

"An vast expanse of water that makes your mind think, is it a lake of a Sea, there is water all around as far as your eyes can see, and than you take some turns and you find yourself in cool and calm small canals with houses on the two sides and people walking around, children playing, womens washing..." their clothes and so on.... It is a beautiful mix of small canals that is a part of a very big lake. We travelled from Kumarakom to Alleppey in the houseboat for 1 night - a very beautiful experience
