The souls of the brahmin and the maiden who is said to have fallen in love with Brahmin have been consecrated in small shrines inside the temple. The devi 'Kalichu' (played)'kulathil vannu'. Hence the name Kanichukulangara.

They were extremely helpful, attentive, and really showed that they cared about us being on the boat. The food was amazing, and I live in India so I get plenty of it, and they made sure we had plenty of drinks. Whenever we asked the crew questions they would take the time to properly answer them no matter what is was about. We would have loved to take the whole day boat ride, but being pressed for time, we opted for the half day boat ride. It started from the banks of the Tejaswini River in Nileshwaram, Kerala which is about 80 kms from Mangalore, Karnataka.
