Things to do in Naalehu - Tourist Places in Naalehu
"Green Sand Beach is really cool, however the day we were there the seas were very rough. Definitely not something kids should be near. The hike out is around 2 miles each way and it is a dirty, windy hike leaving you covered in dirt. Some locals offer rides there for a fee, we heard $15 a person rou..."nd trip from one guy. The beach is very small and it isn't a place for you to catch some rays, the uniqueness is what you're coming to see. Being a geology nerd, this place was a must see for me. I'm glad we went.
South Point was neat too, we found some geocaches, watched people jump the cliffs and then went to watch the waves. 20-30 feet that day and the wind was howling (as it always is there). The wind blows so hard and consistently that trees grow almost sideways.

"We had big plans for the day and the green sand beach was just one of many things. I started out reallt wanting to do the hike but we were short on time. I'd read about Rodney in other reviews and he was working the day we went there. He and some of his family provide a local "taxi service" to th..."e beach. A few reviews talked about difficulty with South Point Road but that was fine. A nice paved road if you ask me. The South Point marker was to the right and the parking lot to the green sand beach was a bit farther beyond that point. A sign marked the way to each point. Nothing was marked when we got to the parking area for the green sand beach. It's a 2-3 mile hike and being short on time for the day, we opted for a ride. Rodney and some others were working. As we walked towards the old trucks and broncos stopped in the roadway, they were quick to offer a ride. less than $20 round trip per person. I told Rodney I wouldn't state any exact amounts when I wrote my review on tri...

"1.5 hour drive from Kona, take the highway east and turn south on South Point Road, take it to the end. Beware, this area is extremely windy. Check out the trees on the way on South Point Road, they grow sideways due to the wind. Once at the end, park where ever and walk where ever you want. I w..."alked down to the ocean and the views are awesome. Great surf breaking on the rocks. Cool photo ops. On the way back, there are places to jump off the cliff into the ocean. I did it and it was exhilarating! You have to do it. There is no danger, the water is extremely deep and there is a ladder to climb back up the cliff. Just get over the mental part of jumping off the cliff (about 40-50 ft drop) and its well worth it.
