Step back in time to an authentic living history experience where historical sites present you with a vivid and unforgettable story of Hawai’i's past. Come experience the 1880’s in the H.N. Greenwell Store Museum where the shopkeeper will help you gather your supplies for your trip up Kona mauka. The mingled aromas of coffee beans and oranges blend together again, just as they did over 100 years ago when goods were sold here in the heydey of Kona ranching. Or you may stroll through the award-winning Kona Coffee Living History Farm that tells the story of Kona’s coffee pioneers during the 1920's. It is America’s only living history coffee farm where you may “talk story” with costumed historians and discover the history behind Kona’s gourmet crop. On Thursdays, visitors and locals alike, line up to buy the sweet bread coming out of the Portuguese stone oven.Come join us! You won’t leave this place without feeling you have experienced a rare glimpse into Hawai`i’s colorful past.

"This is a nice little tour of a coffee farm that has a long history in Hawaii. Our guide was full of interesting facts and quite entertaining during the entire tour. It was raining a bit but the farm staff supplied umbrellas if we needed them. It was fun sampling the various coffees afterwards an..."d we did purchase beans for ourselves. If any oranges or avocados had fallen off the trees onto the ground, we were quite welcome to have them. We returned to the farm later in our visit to purchase more beans as gifts for friends, and one of the staff even remembered us from our earlier visit. Overall, a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

"I can only recommend the tour with Bari. It was great fun and very interesting, saw many species in the sea and learned a lot about the Big Island. It was a pitty that we didn't have more days on the Big Island, we would definitely have done more tours with Bari.
Next time we will visit him!"
"We went on a coffee "review" of about 8 plantations on the Big Island. We like coffee and are huge Costa Rican coffee fans. So we were pleasantly surprised by how smooth and lovely many of the Kona coffees were. Yes, they are pricey. But some of them may be worth the premium. Two stood out ..."for us. UCC-Hawaii may have had the best presentation and some really good (but expensive) coffee. We loved talking to the farm manager (forgot her name).
However, Kona Joe's had the best coffee. It's "vine-grown" coffee is pretty impressive. We LOVED the dark roast and the price at the plantation was not outrageous (about $30 per pound). Even better was its Private Reserve coffee -- killer stuff, albeit overly expensive and only splurge-worthy. Across the board, their coffee and chocolates were superior to all of the other plantations we visited. Better than Greenwell and far superior to Hula Daddy, Mountain Thunder, Blue Sky and a few others we visited. If you are a cof...
