"Very interesting building--massive in size. Truly a horror chamber and if there are trapped spirits it makes perfect sense. Think of the questions you want to ask before going I.e. "they used restraints". What kind of restraints and how long we're folks left in restraints? Having worked in a State i..."nstitution as an RN in the 50's, I thought the tour guide was very factual but not detailed unless someone asked a question. The 4 floors are very much the same and in very poor condition for closing in 1994. It is just empty rooms for the majority of the tour. The museum is interesting and should be visited first so questions could be asked. How did the atrocities done to patients continue over so many years? Definitely a valuable lesson in the "treatment" of the mentally ill for over 100 years in this country. Sadly, many admitted folks were admitted with NO mental illness and had no way out. Now, that is scary!

"Very interesting structure if you're into architecture. This is the second-largest cut sandstone building in North America. Absolutely sprawling and just what you'd expect with lots of history, creepy stories and historical details that are better than fiction. Hundreds of lobotomies performed in a ..."day--all with an ice pick! The tour guides (all women) are dressed in the nurses' uniforms of bygone eras--the day we were there it was the 1930s. Don't miss the permanent art collection, done by the unfortunate thousands who passed through the doors with such unfortunate conditions as 'disobedient to parents, gamblers, disobedient to husbands', etc. Children with what we now know to be ADD or ADHD were sent here and lived out their lives her-if you can call it a life once the lobotomy was performed . . . .

"I came to Weston specifically to visit this facility. It did not disappoint. The tour was extensive and the guide was dressed as a nurse. They offered flashlight tours at night but it was creepy enough during the day. The history of the place is amazing and eye opening."
