  "Due to budget cuts, I understand that the park gets NO money from the state at all. The staff has been cut drastically, but there are volunteers who were very helpful. The 'Discovery Pass' is a good buy at $30, as it is good for one year at all sorts of parks/government land, or the day pass at $10 ..."(each carload) is so worth it...especially if you are lucky enough to see the Orcas whales close to shore. There is not quite anything like it to be found anywhere else in the US. DO wear layers, as it is chilly by the water sometimes, and bring sunscreen! It is a pack it in pack it out park, so take a backpack or bag to carry out your water bottles, etc. There are lots of hikes on the hill behind the park, and the short walk to the restored Lime Kiln is fairly level and away from the water's edge, so it is safe for little ones.   "Staying on San Juan Island for a few days we'd originally planned on whale and wildlife watching from the shore. A quick chilly and unfruitful trip to Lime Kiln State Park made us question this and although our accommodation was ideally situated for watching seals, deer, eagles and humming birds we ..."are just so pleased we went on the trip with San Jan Safaris. The boat looked brand new and had plenty of room to warm up under cover when the sea breezes were too much. Skipper Brian was determined that we would have the best possible trip and planned the optimal route to reflect reported orca sightings and the weather conditions. This was a wonderful safari helped greatly by the experience and knowledge of wildlife expert Andrew. Binoculars, reference materials and blankets were provided however if you are planning a trip ensure you take sufficient food and drink (a flask of hot coffee would have been very welcome) as there is nothing for sale on board and the trip was extended to 4 1/2 h...
