The Hermitage Museum & Gardens, formerly home to the Sloane family, is an early 20th century Arts-and-Crafts estate located on the shore of the Lafayette River in Norfolk, Virginia. Featuring a nationally recognized art collection spanning 5,000 years, the Hermitage is home to the arts. Contemporary exhibition galleries, a Visual Arts Studio, working artist studios, and 12 acres of gardens and grounds offer art and culture to the community, as envisioned by the Sloanes.

"We traveled with a boy scout troop who spent the night on the Battleship Wisconsin in tents. The event was very well organized. My whole family got to go on a tour of the museum, and the battleship. My son didn't want to leave. The exhibits were interesting to everyone in our group, and the pric..."e was okay. However, it would be better to just have one set price to be able to see the entire ship rather than 3 "tours" of the different decks. Otherwise, excellent.

"The Norfolk Botanic gardens was one of the best I've seen - it was huge and everywhere you looked you got a beautiful view! It was $11 per person but in my opinion, well worth the money! They offered a tram ride throughout the gardens and you could also take a boat ride. The observation tower all..."owed you to see much of the gardens and the views were spectacular. Beautiful flowers, trees, streams, fountains and bridges were scattered throughout making every turn a surprise. The parking lot was pretty full but the place was so big that you weren't constantly passing others as you made your way through the park. There was also a garden "hallway" that was lined with marble statues. Highly recommend these gardens if you are in the area. We stopped here on our way to Virginia Beach - it was about 15 minutes from the beach.

"Before we went here, I read reviews on TripAdvisor like I always do, and saw many negative reviews. I am not quite sure why there are bad reviews on this zoo, or if people are just generally unhappy. We took our 2 sons (9 and 2) to the zoo and they absolutely LOVED it.
The zoo is clean, the walk..."ways are clear, there's plenty of shade, there are a lot of neat animals, the animals looked happy for the most part, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable, the price was cheap, it was a great zoo! It's not as big as other regional zoos such as Knoxville Zoo or North Carolina Zoo, but it's a great zoo and I give them 2 thumbs up. If you have kids I highly recommend taking them to this zoo, it's a great place to spend a day.
