"My wife and I stopped at this Museum before we went into the Badlands. It was very life like, including the mannequin in the outhouse. They had a video to watch but it would have been nice if they would have given us a guided tour. The area is populated by rare white prairie dogs so be careful wh..."ere you walk.

"I encourage you to stop at this location and take a look around. It was fantastic, full of history. A massive cold front was moving in the day we stopped. It was horribly windy and getting very cold, very fast. Once we stepped inside the doors, it was easy to imagine yourself living here. It wa..."s warm inside and quiet, despite the wind raging. There are only two main rooms but it is neat to see the difference in the two. Our toddler got a kick out of the Prairie dogs but did not afford us the luxury of spending any time in the gift shop / museum area - but the pamphlet they provided was detailed and interesting.

"This is an excellent historical site for families to visit. Kids familiar with the Little House books will get a good look at life on the prairie. We have stopped several times and have been impressed with the additions and improvements. We see different things each time we stop. The gift shop i..."s loaded with South Dakota items as well as a good selection of books on the west. It is well worth checking out. Love the prairie dogs, too! Take the time and stop in, the staff is well informed and ready to answer questions.
