Edisto Island's home for excursions by boat to secluded beaches known as "Shell Island". Take a short trip by boat where your group will be dropped off to explore isolated shell covered beaches. Or enjoy our canoe & kayak rental with launch and access to Frampton Inlet. Call for reservations.

"Really cool place to take kids on cold or rainy days. Price is a little high, and hours subject to change in off-season. Also call ahead to verify if they're feeding the alligators, they didn't the day we were there because it was too cool. Overall good experience"
Botany Bay Plantation Heritage Preserve and Wildlife Management Area
"This Preserve is off the beaten path, but the scenery here is worth the trip. The drive to the Preserve is lined on both sides by moss covered oaks, making its own Oak Alley experience. At the end of the drive you turn left to enter the Preserve. Go through the gate and stop at the bulletin board..." to pick up a park pass (free) and read the park rules. Then drive down the road and at the end you can turn left for a tour, or turn right to a parking area for the beach. It's about a half mile walk to the beach. When you get there, go to the left and you'll see the bare trees at the water line. They make for unique photos, best seen when the tide is in and the trees are in the water. There are also beautiful shells on the beach but you can't take them - a stiff fine if you do. Just enjoy while you're there.
When we were there (May 2013) the gate opened at 6 am and closed automatically at 8 pm. You won't be locked in - it senses cars on the inside and opens to allow you to exit. ...

"We stopped by in our ongoing quest to collect every seashell on every beach ever. Shell Island did not disappoint.
First, be sure to call ahead for a reservation. This is a small (one man?) outfit that doesn't have a front desk or storefront. We didn't have reservation but were very kindly accomo..."dated. If the owner/operator wasn't there or couldn't take us out, we would've missed out on a great experience. So plan accordingly.
Second, bring cash. Again, this is a small outfit and they don't have a register and point of sale set up.
The owner took us on the approximately five minute trip from the dock to the island, let us out and came back in an hour and a half to pick us up. It was a perfect amount of time to scour the island for the perfect shell.
We would definitely go back and would recommend this place to anyone.
