The Oberlin Heritage Center is an award-winning small museum and historical society in Oberlin, OH. Visitors can tour the Monroe House (1866), Little Red Schoolhouse (1836), and Jewett House (1884) while hearing stories about Oberlin College, the first co-educational college in the nation, Oberlin's historic efforts to end slavery, and the local discovery that ignited the aluminum industry. Stories are told within historically-furnished buildings and visitors of all ages can write on slate boards, ring the bell, and try walking on stilts at the hands-on Little Red Schoolhouse. Visitors can also hear stories about abolition and the Underground Railroad, the Civil War, and Oberlin's unique history while touring the town on one of several history walks. Visitors wishing to tour the Oberlin Heritage Center must be accompanied by a guide, so please be sure to check our online calendar for tour times. The Oberlin Heritage Center is open year round and our offices are open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Researchers and family historians may also wish to set up an appointment to visit the Resource Center, where we have city records, oral histories, genealogical information, and more.
