Things to do in Barking - Tourist Places in Barking
"This National Trust property glimpsed from the A13 in Barking is well worth a visit. What once was a Manorial Estate is now a housing Estate, but the Tudor Manor house sits amid it all in great splendour. Whilst the rooms are not furnished in the way that many other National trust properties are, ha..."ving only one or two pieces on loan from the V&A the varied history is brought alive by the excellent standard of the display boards. The painted hall retains some of it's original paintings and as you climb higher from floor to floor you get a wonderfully expanding view across the east of London towards the dome and Canary Wharf.
Sweeping lawns to the front, a walled garden, complete with niches for bee-hives, a tiny courtyard and a larger paved area with potager garden surround the house, once an important manor with possible links to the Gunpowder Plot.
Managed by the local council it is also great to know that this venue is used by the community, from handiwork classes and seminars to ...

"When I first idly looked up Barking on tripadvisor I simply could not believe that The Broadway did not figure in any of the reviews.
The Broadway is a fairly small theatre with a cafe and well-stocked bar in the centre of Barking, at the back of the Town Hall, near to the library. It's easy to get..." to, and there are plenty of eateries/bars nearby.
It puts on some really good stand up as well as plays and one-man shows, all of which imo are good enough to be staged in a much larger theatre or in London's West End.
The last play I saw there was "Sissie and Ada" with Steve Nallon. He's the guy who used to do the Maggie Thatcher impersonations and voiceovers for Spitting Image in the 80's. He was brilliant,as were the other actors, and it was a great night replete with memories of the late, great Les Dawson..
Please try this little theatre, you won't regret it.

"I've lived in East London for 25 years and have only just found this hidden gem. It is quite surreal to see a tudor house in the middle of a housing estate. House, gardens and tearooms all very lovely. What with the Olympic Park, Hackney Wick, Valentine's House, Wanstead Park and Eastbury Manor,..." there's lots going on in East London.
