- David L1 contributionOn Monday October 23, 2023 I visited the Cosmos Centre in Charleville and had a wonderful time. The staff were welcoming and friendly. In particular Chris was very helpful explaining what was in the centre, booking me into the nighttime star watching that evening and assisting me with purchases for my grandchildren. The star watching session was superb and being a small group and we were all able to get photos of the moon on our phones looking through the telescope. Chris did a wonderful job guiding everyone to the telescope and making sure we could see the appropriate stars through the telescope. It was a great evening. Well done Chris 11 out of 10!Written 22 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Paul LegateUnited Kingdom20,389 contributionsWe visited the RFDS visitor centre whilst we were staying in Charleville, it is located close to Cosmos Centre and Charleville Airport.
The visitor centre was fairly small however there was a lot of exhibits packed into a relatively small area. There were several interactive displays as well as a comprehensive potted history of the service, quirky and interesting details of RFDS that we certainly didn't know about including a large interactive exhibit explaining about the medical chests that are distributed by RFDS to families and communities in remote locations.
There was also a large selection of souvenirs available to purchase. At the entrance there was a memorial commemorating Dr Allan Robert Stanley Vickers who worked for the Royal Flying Doctor Service for 35 years. We enjoyed our visit to the Royal Flying Doctors Visitor Centre which was hugely informative and there were many things we learnt about the service that we did not previously know.Written 13 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - p0lly06Warrnambool, Australia28 contributionsMark has a passion for dates and this shone through as he explained how the business started and how you grow palm trees to produce dates. It was a really relaxing tour with lots of time for questions of which Mark had all the answers.
Guessing the date type was fun when we got to taste 4 different types of dates. Ending the tour was a nice billy tea or coffee and a piece of date slice. There was also produce you could buy and I can highly recommend the sticky date, it was Devine.Written 15 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Gene R JSilver Spring, MD9,113 contributionsAfter visiting the Airport’s Museum sites(Weather Station, WWII Secret Museum, Cosmos Center and Flying Doctors), we came here. This oasis is a fantastic area to stroll the paved walkways to see the identified trees and many varieties of birds including ducks, herons and flocks of colorful galahs. There are numerous places to sit, picnic benches and play areas for the kids.
We saw the exhibit with the 2 Steiger Vortex Guns used here during the 1902 drought. Sign boards detailed how the Europeans had invented this new technology to stimulate rain clouds to save their vineyards.

So many items of household and commercial equipment including the old Bank Vault as the building was once the Qld National Bank Ltd. At the back of the building there was an area dedicated to aboriginal artifacts. The Museum was very popular as a lot of people were meandering through.Written 10 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The Westlander operates the 777km journey between Brisbane and Charleville. Prior to 2015 the train consisted of sleepers and restaurant facilities but has been hugely paired down since then.
Our journey was from Charleville to Brisbane which runs Fridays and Tuesdays, we chose the Friday departure. We were allowed to board about 30 minutes before departure.
The train was a lot nicer than I was expecting and had a good amount of facilities for the 17 hour journey. There were 2 carriages, Carriage A was for passenger use with seats in 2x1 layout while Carriage B was used as an overflow, seating in 2x2 layout. There was a lounge area at the front of the train that opened between 7am and 9pm. Self serve tea and coffee as well shower facilities were also available.
The train left on time at at 1815hrs, during the journey there were plenty of annoucements and the staff members were attentive and friendly throughout. At meal times snack packs were handed out consisiting of a sandwich, juice, cake and fruit and a chocolate bar in the evening and breakfast items in the morning. Additionally there was a small menu of items available for purchase at very reasonable prices.
The seats were very comfortable and it was possible to have a reasonable amount of sleep. Arrival into Brisbane Roma Street was well ahead of schedule , it was an excellent experience using Westlander.Written 2 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. He has Parkinson’s disease and finds travel difficult because of his mobility limitations. This trip was perfect. Brisbane to Brisbane with touch downs in Birdsville, over night in Port Augusta and touch down for lunch in Charleville on the way back. Excellent service - amazing sights over the Channel Country, Cooper Creek, Lake Eyre North and South, Flinders Ranges, Wilpena Pound and Maree Man. Graham is the most attentive and knowledgeable guide we have ever experienced and we have travelled a lot worldwide. This special weekend was an Amazing trip organised and hosted by a True Blue Aussie couple who are owner/operators who absolutely love what they do and treat customers like royalty.Written 13 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Scott C1 contributionFor me, this was my favourite guided tour in Charleville out of 5 tours overall, almost skipped past it due to time commitments, so glad I didn't.
Rachel our guide who has connections to the story was born for this, It would be hard top her presentation.
How I wish I had a time machine to step back inside of the bar in the rambling heyday of the Hotel Corones.
Great job Rachel!!
