This site is located on land once owned by the parents of James K. Polk, the 11th U.S. president. The state historic site commemorates significant events in the Polk administration: the Mexican-American War, settlement of the Oregon boundary dispute, and the annexation of California. Reconstructions of typical homestead buildings—a log house, separate kitchen, and barn—are authentically furnished. The visitor center features a film on Polk's life and exhibits on his family and tumultuous presidency.

"Grandkids like to get an "all you can" wrist badge and just ride the go-carts over and over. Sometimes they take a break and golf a round - but then back to the carts. That's what we go for. LOTS of viceo games - but unsure of price/value on those. "
"Great time was had by all. The home is a little known place in Pineville which is outside of Charlotte. The staff there is well versed in the history of Polk. Love to go there everytime we are in Charlotte. "
"This is a must stop, we were in town from Utah and thought we would have a look, we didn't make it early enough to watch the short film but took the small tour of the buildings. A nice little stop offering many facts that were interesting to learn. My kids 8, 12, and 14 enjoyed seeing the inside o..."f the house and separate cooking building, as we'll as walking around the small museum. We walked the grounds and enjoyed seeing and reading the headstones in the small cemetery.
The entire family enjoyed this stop and loved the history. We were there less than an hour, and had plenty of time, but we didn't see the film.
