Over a century ago, Portsmouth Village was a bustling port town. Today, the buildings and exhibits tell the story of changing times and life on the Outer Banks. The Theodore and Annie Salter House and Visitor Center, School, Post Office and General Store, U.S. Life-Saving Station, Methodist Church, and Henry Piggot House are open to the public seasonally.Be sure to bring insect repellent, drinking water, food, sunscreen, adequate clothing, a hat, and good walking shoes.

Teach's Hole Blackbeard Exhibit is a unique attraction devoted to all things "piratical." Since 1992, the exhibit and its pirate specialty shop have been a favorite destination for families visiting Ocracoke Island. The exhibit features a life-like recreation of Blackbeard, a weapons display, old bottles, original art, a pirate flag display, ship models, and interactive activities. As visitors leave the exhibit, they enter a one of a kind pirate specialty shop. Kids of all ages will enjoy Teach’s Hole!

"We were there for the 3rd time to attend the Memorial that is held each May to commemorate the lost of the British seaman who lost their lives off of the coast of Ocracoke Island during World War 2 helping to protect the USA. It is a touching tribute to those seaman that are buried there as well a..."s to those who were not found. The cemetery is very nicely kept up by the Coast Guard and is certainly worth a visit if for no other reason than to remember the past and to thank those who gave their lives for our freedom.
It definitely is a must see when on Ocracoke Island.

"Cool, small lighthouse to visit if you have a few extra minutes or are checking another light house of your list as we were. Small, can't go in, very limited parking and poor signage to get there. But walkway to the lighthouse is level and easy to maneuver, take a quick picture and then walk back to..." your car.
Kinda wish the parks department would take this one over too so we could go in.
