Colonial Governors ruled, legislators debated, patriots gathered and George Washington danced. At Tryon Palace, where British rule once flourished, American independence took root and the state of North Carolina was born. Here you can still experience the adventure of North Carolina’s earliest beginnings and a living history like no other. Guided tours, live re-enactments and conversations with costumed interpreters from centuries past bring history to life in vivid detail at the Governor’s Palace, Gardens and Historic Homes. And, at the new high-tech North Carolina History Center, interactive games and hands-on exhibits delight visitors young and old. Whether you’re exploring one of our riverside gardens or sharpening your skills as a quilter, printer, ship’s captain or blacksmith, there are endless opportunities for making cherished family memories at Tryon Palace.

"We had such a good time! The captain and the owner were so nice and so good with our kids! We have a 2 yr old and a 10 yr old; neither of them had been on a boat before. They were so patient with the process of getting kids into life jackets and settled. The captain was so knowledges on the area ..."and made my 10 yr olds day when he let her drive the boat! This was well worth the money; I would recommend it to everyone!

"What a fun time! When we read about it we thought it was a museum with a gift shop but it was really a store with some memorabilia. However, the people who worked there could not have been nicer and it was really worth the visit. So many fun things to see and buy, it was like taking a little step ..."back in time. They had videos playing with interviews and commercials and the story of the cola wars. Fun memorabilia hanging all over that you could look at and take pictures with. Fun place to hang out and get some pieces of Americana. After shopping you have to get a Pepsi float. Perfect way to end a visit.
Btw, lots of cute shops nearby. Just down the street is Bear Square which was a nice place to take a little break and take some pictures. Great little town, Pepsi place is great (terrific staff), looking forward to going back.
