"The Untermyer Gardens are lovely, but it is a shame that they were allowed to deteriorate. I applaud the society working to restore them. New York lost a gem when it could not maintain the house and grounds. The walled garden has the most magnificent weeping beech trees (at lest that is what I beli..."eve them to be). The views to the Hudson River are stunning. I hope in the future the gardens can be further restored.

"Yonkers is about an hour's drive from Manhattan. We decided to visit the Hudson River Museum on 11th May 2013 because we were told the exhibition of the collection of the Panorama and Hudson River school of paintings would come to an end in a week or two. Permanent collection of paintings of Hudson River Museum itself,...

As you stand amid the flowers, overhanging trees and fountai..."ns, looking at the Persian-style sphinxes, Greek columns and the Hudson River, it's easy to feel yourself transported to a land of elegant, timeless, classical beauty. You can almost imagine Keats or Shelley reciting here (John Masefield, the poet laureate of England, lived and worked nearby around 1895), or imagine nymphs and satyrs cavorting in the pastoral scene. (OK, I shouldn't get carried away.) Descend the steep steps to get a closer look at the river. In the summer, concerts and the occasional play are presented. There is no better place around for these shows, and even when there's nothing going on, it's a quiet, idyllic spot. If you were to see nothing else in Yonkers, you would be...
