- James BDublin, Ireland70 contributionsHad a fantastic visit here while traveling around the area. It was full of rich history and information about TB treatment and research. The curator there (Alex I think was his name) was very enthusiastic which we love in an employee and was happy to answer our questions. He even was able to pick out one of the books from the gift shop and draw us a map to the old sanatorium. I would absolutely recommend stopping by and supporting this lovely piece of New York and American history.Written 27 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mike2 contributionsThe shows were wonderful. Top-notch talent. Really worth it. We usually head to Saranac Lake for the water and relaxation. It was such a fun way to spend an evening. They brought in excellent talent.Written 7 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Andrea SAtlanta, GA220 contributionsFor over an hour, Mike Delahant, caretaker and guide enchanted us with the history of Robert Lois Stevenson's life and stay at the Baker home while he regained his health from what was thought to Tuberculosis. He was happy here, a celebrated author and respected man of letters. His rooms contain the original furniture and are packed with memorabilia from both here and the Pacific Islands where he dreamed of going while he recovered. I only hope that someone has recorded the history that Mike brings to life. Go visit. The cottage is opened in season and by appointment off season. The very idea of “vacation” originated from urban elites choosing to “vacate” the cities to visit unspoiled wilderness as depicted by painters, artists, and illustrators of the 19th century. In the 21st century, that allure is enhanced by visionaries of all media who experience, interpret, and represent their passions for the benefit of patrons and passersby. The Adirondack Artists’ Guild caters to the passerby who steps in and is transported to new worlds, or new ways to see the old worlds. Check it out. You won’t be sorry.Written 10 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Sophie SWilton, CT6 contributionsThis place has everything; pottery, paper making, drawing, painting, and more!! They even have an amazing art gallery upstairs. Teachers are so patient and amazing at helping you achieve your goals for your finished piece. I have come here for three years every summer to take pottery lessons and I love it!! I would definitely take more classes and expand my horizons with other types of art. They don’t judge your are, you can just be yourself. You should definitely take a class here, bring your friends and family too!Written 30 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - raisin93Huntington, NY18 contributionsWe found this terrific store in the heart of Main St. in the sleepy town of Saranac. The store educates you about the loons via lecture and videos and sells loon inspired products as its goals to help preserve these wonderful melodic sounding and unique birds. For a small donation you can sponsor your very own loon and you are given literature and a picture of the loon you've adopted.Written 11 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - leneyBClifton Park, NY390 contributionsLoved this hike but we should have researched a little more before taking our small kids. Our 3 year old hiked it while we bribed her with snacks to get to the top and the 6 year old had no issues, but we do a lot of walking and both are in good shape. The path was a little difficult to figure out which way to go, but somehow we made it to the top and we were rewarded with a beautiful view.
This is one of the 6 Saranac 6er mountains. I had read it was family friendly 2 mile round trip, but it is tricky going up hill. Wear good shoes and be willing to climb up boulders. The way down was a little easier, but still tricky. It took us about 2 - 2.5 hours round trip with a stop for snacks and to relish the view at the top.Written 18 August 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Nancy MVermontville, NY50 contributionsThis simple cabin is the only Bartok residence in the United States that is open to the public. His son has said that Bartok loved the cabin because it reminded him of the simple abodes of Hungarian peasants. The cabin is managed by Historic Saranac Lake and can be visited by appointment -- -----. Bartok rented the cabin in the summer of 1945, just before his death in that year. Despite his ill health, he composed his Third Piano Concerto and the Viola Concerto here in the little corner beside the fireplace.
