"When it was under construction a few years ago, all we heard about was how much it was costing to build the new Montgomery County (MD) performing arts center known as Strathmore.
Nowadays, we go there maybe five-six times a year for a concert -- choral, symphony, recital -- and every time we do, I ..."remark on how glad I am that our county government (and others) had the foresight to propose and finance such a magnificent concert hall.
It has state-of-the-art acoustics, convenient parking, Metro access, pre-concert dining, etc. It makes me proud to be a taxpaying resident of such a progressive county and state.
It also occurs to me that every major event there must inject several tens of thousands of dollars into the local economy.

"If the only DC area places you think of when you hear "concert hall" are the Kennedy Center and Wolf Trap, think again. The Strathmore is a revelation. You can hear everything perfectly; there are no obstructed view seats anywhere in the house; people look delighted to be there. Getting to and fr..."om is far more convenient than anyplace else, and the attached garage (which doubles as a Metro lot during the day) is free to concert-goers. We've been there several times now, mostly to hear jazz, blues and some classical. Everything sounds wonderful in this hall, and the performers are clearly delighted to be there, too.

"It's a park. Not supposed to be fancy - just a nice wooded space for kids to run around. There's plenty of play structures for big and little kids alike, picnic spaces for the family, and the Miniature Train ride.
To the last point: it's fun, but it gets crowded. Check the park website for operat..."ing times, and try and go early.
