Maine Maritime Museum is located on a beautiful 20-acre campus on the banks of the Kennebec River in Bath, Maine. Indoors, visitors enjoy air-conditioned galleries with exhibits and hands-on activities for all ages. Outdoors, visitors can join a guided tour or stroll through the historic Percy & Small shipyard and see how many of the world's largest wooden sailing ships were built, learn about lobstering in the Maine Coast and Lobstering Exhibit, enjoy lunch under the towering sculpture of the schooner, Wyoming (the largest wooden sailing vessel built in North America), tour the Victorian-era Donnell House, watch wooden boats being built in the Museum boat ship, or play on a pirate ship. Seasonal river cruises allow visitors the best view of the area’s lighthouses and spectacular scenery, tours of Bath Iron Works provide the only public behind-the-scenes view of naval shipbuilding in the U.S., and the Grand Banks fishing schooner Sherman Zwicker is open to visitors.

"Visited in April, so not all exhibits were open yet, but we still came away with a greater understanding of the tremendous work ethic of the Bath shipbuilders. Informative displays, lovely grounds, helpful staff. It's well worth the visit."
"Mid-May is a great time to visit Maine and a tour through the Maritime Museum will please those interested in Maritime history as well as the fact that it is sited on the Kennebec just down the Kennebec River from Bath Ironworks a proud ship builder carrying on the Bath traditions.
The main buildin..."g contains several collections of paintings, materiel used in shipbuilding, and numerous beautiful models and photographs of boats and ships built in Bath that went around the world to a variety of ends. As others have noted in the summer great tours of the historic buildings can be seen as well as a variety of cruises around the area.
The latest activity is the addition of huge masts to the white steel model of the Wyoming that gives testimony to the value that Bath has to the world of shipbuilding. Tours of shipyard are also available ($27.00 on a trolley, no photographs or phone allowed for security reasons). They have an excellent gift shop.
